Mr. Cross routinely sits as Special District Court Judge, Criminal Division of Jefferson County, Alabama. He is formerly a partner in the area of white collar criminal defense with the law firm of White Arnold & Dowd P.C. with over 15 years experience in Criminal Law. He has served as an Assistant District Attorney and an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Alabama. His experience has given him the opportunity to prosecute everything from improper sewage disposal to capital murder; and, to defend everything from using fake identification to securities fraud. He has served on the faculty of the Jefferson County Law Enforcement Academy where he taught the intricacies of DUI Law. He has served on the faculty of the National Advocacy Center which is funded by the U.S. Department of Justice and teaches Prosecution in State and Federal Court of white-collar crimes, environmental violations, cyber-crimes and governmental corruption.
Mr. Cross’ White Collar Criminal Defense and Corporate Investigation Practice
In recent years we have witnessed an explosion of investigations of business activities, investment opportunities, securities, government contracting, insurance companies and other health care matters. These investigations are complicated by administrative proceedings and civil litigation which have dire criminal implications.
Mr. Cross has years of experience in prosecuting and representing clients in government investigations as well as white collar criminal defense matters. Mr. Cross represents clients by orchestrating internal investigations, responding to grand jury and governmental regulatory subpoenas, handling grand jury proceedings and search warrants, negotiating with prosecutors and other regulators, and defending clients in all stages of the criminal process: pleas, trials, and sentencing.
Importantly, Mr. Cross, along with the civil team at Fischer, Goldasich & Aughtman defend clients and prosecute claims in civil litigation closely related to regulatory and criminal investigations including banking litigation, civil fraud suits and conversion of asset lawsuits.
Mr. Cross’ clients have included corporations; corporate officers, directors and employees; elected officials; small businesses and business owners; bank officers, directors and employees; and, other associations and individuals.
Mr. Cross’ representation covers a wide range of substantive areas, including: accounting, antitrust, banking, campaign finance, energy, environmental, health care, money laundering, political corruption, procurement and government contracting, securities, tax and technology, False Claim Act, Patriot Act, RICO and Sarbanes-Oxley
