Jay began his professional career as a banker.  After several years working in the financial sector, he graduated law school and then served as law clerk to Justice Mark Kennedy on the Supreme Court of Alabama.  Following his clerkship, Jay practiced law at one of the top five largest plaintiff firms in the country for 13 years, serving as a partner in the firm for 9 years.  Jay currently holds the position of national co-chair of the American Association for Justice Class Action Litigation Group.  The group is the premier organization for class action litigators across the country.

Jay recently co-led a settlement for a state government client involving a complex reinsurance scheme.  The case involves a complex web of accounting and actuarial fraud committed by several large domestic corporations and off-shore entities.  Relief for thousands of affected individual and corporate citizens was achieved through the litigation.  His practice has been, and continues to be, focused on complex business litigation, class actions, government representation, consumer fraud and securities litigation.

Jay has lectured across the country on class actions, business torts and securities litigation.  He is frequently asked to participate in local and national round table discussions on these issues.  Even with the firm’s offices are located in Alabama, the partners at Fischer, Goldasich & Aughtman have a national practice by way of co-counseling arrangements throughout the country.  Jay undertakes to represents clients in many states and jurisdictions through his co-counseling contacts.

Jay is married and has two children.  He is active in his church and local civic organizations.  He is a member of:
